This past year, Capcom pleased millions of fans with a refreshed, mobile rendition of Street Fighter IV in the App Store. But the fun didn't stop there, as the company is now planning on releasing two new game titles and a major update for Street Fight IV for iPhone. Check out the video footage we have of Capcom's next two games, slated for release later this year. Plus, we have some news on the next Street Fight IV update.
First things first, a look at Capcom Arcade
Several times a year, you can find us busting out the old Nintendo Entertainment System to relive the magic of our kinder years with old school games. Sometimes, you can even find us at the nearby Nickel City, relishing in the nostalgia of cabinet-dwelling arcade classics. Capcom has so appropriately manifested this idea of old school, arcade fun and packaged it all up into a neat app for your iPhone. The app is called Capcom Arcade, and it will enable hardcore game enthusiasts to rehash the same two-dimensional magic onto their own mobile devices.
To start, Capcom Arcade will have four pre-installed classic games: Street Fighter 2, 1942, Commando, and Ghouls & Ghosts. Capcom plans on adding a new arcade game to the app every month in the form of updates.
In order to play the arcade games, players will utilize a virtual "ticket" system; one "ticket" will enable players to play any of the games one time, just like putting in a quarter and playing your turn for as long as you can survive. Each game will come with its own free "ticket" so that players can demo the title, and then they'll have to actually purchase additional "tickets" to play either of the game titles whenever they well please. Each "ticket" will last for roughly 24 hours, after which they will expire. But, you can only play the game once within this period.
Conversely, if you want to just play the game whenever, Capcom will offer a model where players can purchase the full game and launch it within the Capcom Arcade app, though this will only allow access to one game title at a time, and players will still have to purchase "tickets" should they want to play any of the other games they did not fully pay for.
Capcom Arcade will also feature a Special Items store, which will allow players to purchase cheat codes and the like for any of the arcade games. Hey, if you're having trouble staying alive in Commando, just purchase a bullet proof vest and you'll manage five hits before you take in any damage.
Prices are still tentative at the moment and the game is slated for November pending Apple review; the app itself will be free to download. Check out our video below of Associate Editor, Nic Vargus, playing through some of the games in Capcom Arcade.
Fight off some zombies, save a friend in Dead Rising 2
This holiday season, expect some zombie-pwning fun in your stocking. Dead Rising 2 is coming to the App Store, and it's chock full of all the greatness of the console version, plus a little bit of social networking integration. Fans of the series will be able to use Twitter and Facebook to send out "help" signals to their friends on either profiles. If their friends respond, they can be saved, but if the friend ignores the link and doesn't save them, then they turn into a zombie in the other game and spawn as an AI that can be killed--that's what happens when friends don't help friends get out of zombie land.
Here's some game footage of the upcoming Dead Rising 2:
And let's not forget Street Fighter IV
Capcom will release an update for Street Fighter IV later this year that will focus primarily on head-to-head combat, rather than adding on more new characters. Additionally, the new update will also feature new player achievements, though they will not be compatible with Game Center.
