Beta no more: SugarSync's completely revamped desktop software has completed private and public beta testing and is now ready for users to install and use on a daily basis.
SugarSync announced Thursday that the 2.0 version of its Mac and PC software is finally out of beta and available to everyone, complete with many usability, performance and stability improvements.
The completely redesigned cloud sync application now features easier navigation and a simplified setup using drag & drop. The beta also introduced SugarSync Drive, a virtual drive that mounts on the desktop and Finder which makes it faster to access data. One big change with the release version is a preference option to disable mounting SugarSync Drive for those who don't need it.
While SugarSync has always been pretty good with sharing files and folders using private or public links, version 2.0 improves further on this feature, giving users increased flexibility. The app also allows cloud search across all linked computers and devices.
In addition to an improved experience for photos, the SugarSync 2.0 Mac and PC apps offer the same consistent design across the desktop, web and mobile apps. The final version of the Android app is now available, and a refreshed iOS version is promised soon.
Existing users will be automatically notified of the SugarSync 2.0 update, but if you can't wait or want to give it a try for the first time, head to the website and download it manually -- the first 5GB of cloud storage is free.
