Looking for some cool apps to get you into the weekend? Our Wednesday recap has a trio of them, along with news of Apple's slow invasion into Russia and even the gossipy tale of how Twitter's video sharing app Vine might have cost the CEO of Viddy his job. For those of us of a certain age, however, the big news is gonna come right up front with the return of an '80s pop culture icon...
ProCutX App Allows Final Cut Pro X Control from iPad
Despite the early qualms of legacy users, Final Cut Pro X has made a lot of headway in the year and a half since it replaced the aging code of its predecessor. Now, developer Pixel Film Studios aims to help push things along a little faster with ProCutX, an iOS app that allows editors to control FCPX on a Mac from the comfort of their iPad. With precision timeline scrubbing, color grading tools and plenty of shortcuts, ProCutX could make the iPad your Mac's new best friend for only $24.99 and a trip to the App Store.
Viddy CEO Out After Rebuffing Twitter Acquisition
PandoDaily is reporting that Viddy co-founder and CEO Brett O'Brien is in search of a new job after the board of directors sent him packing in the wake of Twitter debuting the competing Vine app. Rumor has it that Viddy was approached with an acquisition offer from Twitter prior to going their own way with Vine, gossip that board member Brian O'Malley flatly denied. “There are discussions of this nature ongoing all the time, but it never got to the point where we ever had anything that I would consider a concrete offer," he said. Whatever the case, it would seem the sudden, explosive growth of Vine has come at the expense of competing apps like Viddy, and the company is looking to shake things up at the top level.

Apple Hiring for Online Store Chat Manager in Russia
According to a TechCrunch report, Apple may be poised to take a big leap into direct sales in Russia this year. Among several job ads posted by the company is one for a "Chat Team Manager" specifically listed as being for the Apple Online Store -- which doesn't exist yet in Russia. The formerly Soviet country has had to rely on third-party resellers and mobile carriers for getting its Apple wares, but that could soon be changing, especially after persistent rumors that an Apple retail store may be headed to Moscow in the future. Apple is also seeking a marketing manager, label relations executive and Russian Service Provider Support Advisor, though none of those are specifically linked to an online store.
