If you've waited patiently for the release of iOS 6, bringing with it a few improvements and bug fixes for the the iPhone 5, today's the day. The download is available now for iPhone, iPad, and iPod.
Among the various bug fixes, the iPhone 5 patch may be the most important of the lot. Strangely, when Apple released its new device this fall, the company inadvertently left out the over-the-air update system.
So, if you're an iPhone 5 user, you'll have to first download the update the old-fashioned way, before you can start receiving over-the-air updates. Yes, it's weird. But for every other iOS device, over-the-air functionality should work just fine.
Other major points in the iOS 6.0.1 update include a fix for some nagging keyboard issues, and an admittedly rare instance of the device's camera flash staying on. Hey, at least it made a good flashlight.
The update also improves Wi-Fi connectivity for the iPhone 5 and fifth-gen iPod Touch. Both devices should function properly on WPA2 encrypted Wi-Fi networks.
An odd oversight, iOS 6.0.1 addresses a potential issue where Passbook details could be viewed even from the lock screen. Passbook is still accessible from a locked iPhone, but snoops shouldn't be able to see the actual data.

When are they going to fix the iOS 6 and iPhone 4S problem? What I call the 'Hand Warmer' feature has plagued my phone since the day iOS 6 was released. The phone randomly runs some unknown process at maximum speed. This makes the phone very warm and can drain a full battery to nothing in about an hour. Apple refuses to allow downgrading to iOS 5. They've already sent me one new phone in hopes of fixing the problem, but the new phone is loaded with iOS 6 which has the same problem.

This problem is on the Apple Discussion Boards, but to answer your question; this happens whether I have any apps running or not. I have witnessed my phone go from 100% battery charge to 20% in less then an hour while it was doing nothing but sitting on my desk with no apps running.

When I looked at the update screen on the phone, it had me download an app that seems to allow me to then update to 6.0.1. So it is still doable over the air. There is just a weird work around.

This is 6.0.1 not 6.1.
I did see a note earlier today that 6.1 had been seeded to developers, so that might be the confusion. My updated iPhone 4S says 6.0.1 and that my software is up-to-date.
