There’s so much stuff at the International Consumer Electronics Show each year, it’s easy to overlook the clever things that might fall through the cracks -- take, for instance, a new iOS app from Sculpteo, which introduces a powerful, cloud-based 3D print engine for converting most anything you can see into real-life objects.
Sculpteo has just announced a free iOS app, 3D Printing Sculpteo Design Maker, which enables users to snap a photo of most anything with your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad 2 and then make them come to life through the company’s 3D printing cloud engine.
Founded in 2009, France's Sculpteo offers its online 3D printing service for laptop and desktop users to create a real object from a 3D file, but the new iOS app offers the ability to create these images on the go from a mobile device for the very first time. Images can be converted into objects like a vase, bowl, plate or mug with complete control over the size, dimensions, color and material right from the palm of your hand.
Sculpteo’s service uses sophisticated technology and has traditionally been aimed at designers and companies, but the iOS version is the company’s first major foray into the consumer market. The company has partnered with a number of world renowned designers to create concepts for the app, which can then be customized with a user’s own data.
3D Printing Sculpteo Design Maker is available now in the App Store as a free 5.2MB universal download. We’ll be on the floor at CES doing a video with the company so stay tuned later this week for a live demo of the app in action!
