It would seem that for every need, there's an app offering a solution. This week, two different developers are offering new solutions -- one aimed at creating mobile websites on the go, and another making it easier than ever for women to shop on the iPad.
There's no shortage of shopping apps on the iPad, but how many of them are capable of browsing, saving and sharing across thousands of commerce sites at once? That's the promise of Flit, a new free shopping aggregator that allows the fairer sex to stay social as they shop.
Specifically tailored to female shoppers, Flit allows a single search query to echo across thousands of online shops in the company's database. The app's patent-pending technology eliminates the need for switching between browser windows or tabs, making it a breeze to comparison shop or just save an item for later consideration.
“We make it easy for shoppers to buy from and discover both large stores and smaller boutiques while fully retaining the retailer’s merchandising and branding,” explains Flit CEO Adrian Lall. “We believe in the role and diversity of online shops that Flit encourages.”
If your app needs lean more toward creation than consumption, the creators of M.dot have a new, equally free solution that's just hit the App Store which allows iPhone owners to create mobile websites on the go in only five minutes.
"Choose a template, fill the information and you're done -- with a gallery, blog and visitor statistics," the company promises. "Small businesses can enable call-me buttons, directions and maps. If you have a standard website, M.dot will scrape the pictures and texts, let you fill them into one of our mobile-optimized templates, host the mobile site on m. domain and automatically redirect mobile visitors."
Unlike similar apps, this isn't strictly about creating a new website from scratch, although that can certainly be done with M.dot -- but it should be a boon for those who already have their own website but need a mobilized version with the ability to add a touch of customization.
Both Flit and M.dot are now available free from the App Store. Flit requires an iPad running iOS 5.0 or later, while M.dot will work on any device running iOS 4.3 or later and is optimized for the iPhone 5, but sadly not universal for native iPad support.
