Free App Friday: Let's Get Social

The other day on Twitter, I lamented about how hard it was for me to get over my shyness and say hello to my mat neighbor in yoga class. And then I realized it's because everything I know about being social I learned from Twitter and Facebook. And then I got a little sad when I realized that's what my generation has come to. But that's alright, because I suppose that just gives me more of a reason to use my iOS devices, right? So I can stay friends with the few people I've successfully met IRL? Oh crap, I'm using acronyms now. I've become the problem.
So, anyway, welcome to Free App Friday. And here are three social apps to help you stay in touch with friends.
Did you really think I was going to write about social networking and not include this gem? I can't tell you what Google+ is really for because I'm having a hard time picking a purpose for it, myself. Is it Twitter? Is it Facebook? Is it a new social network that's supposed to combine the best features from the aforementioned? I don't know. If I knew I wouldn't have written three sentences on why I don't know. But anyway, if you have Google+ and are trying to find a use for it yourself, get the iOS app.
You know you spend some time each day chatting about your favorite television shows with your pal. I try to talk to mine about Beverly Hills, 90210, but they tend to shut me up and start talking about some other lame shows instead, like Breaking Bad or Mad Men, or even Glee. Whatever, they just don't understand what good television is. And if you have the same problem with your friends use Miso to really share what you're into. Miso lets you "check in" to television episodes and movies and displays what your friends are watching, too.
Do you play nice with your friends? Is Scrabble a weekly occurrence in your social group? Why not kick iOS into the mix with Qrank? It's a daily trivia game you play with your pals. Every day, the app updates with new questions, usually pulled from the day's headlines, and your job is to try to outwit your friends. Then, have an inevitable conversation about how you should have known the answer to that question at Happy Hour later that day.
